Destroyed!
His words disintegrated my soul into ashes
Bones crushed, milled like peppercorns
Wafted in the air like dust before a storm
His phrases designed to reduce me to an atom
I cracked wide open, exposed and volatile
Before he could see me explode
I fled like an antelope
Running and screaming like a phantom
Until my legs gave way beneath me
And my heart ruptured in my chest
And once the tears dried permanently
I became a furnace of inimitable doom
A teenage menace of misfortune
An adrenaline junky, wild and reckless
Jumping off moving busses
Joy-riding down highways without a license
Experimenting with narcotics while teetering
On the edge of train platforms
Way beyond the yellow line
Then pissing and puking in alleyways
Drunk dialing you and crank calling her
Tempting death with a high wire act
Because no poison could do the job
Then I found new ways to punish you
You who sat gloating inside of me
With your self-satisfied grin and
Perfect new girl-friend
I dressed like a Gothic Satan, evil eyed
Nose piercing, matted hair, black lipstick and all
Summoning dark powers, and disciples’ of hell
To come exorcise me of you
But even high spirits couldn’t do the job
So I became a big-ass fire-breathing dragon
Puffing deadly chemical fumes
Destruction and desolation personified
A whirling cyclone of ruin
Obliterating everything in its path
I had to show you what you did
So I wore my soul on the outside, replicating
A Cyclops with a grotesque vacuum eye
Eating men who desired to conquer me
I became a demon of annihilation
A gorgon spat out from the underworld
A Gog of chaos and anarchy
To bring down the walls you built
Which couldn’t let in any other
And I destroyed me.
