Imagine

Imagine a world bereft of sunshine,

Just overcast in smoke and drizzling

People grim holding umbrellas,

Gaunt faces with tempers sizzling

Imagine trees without leafy foliage

Scrawny and withered, arms outstretched

To scare the life from passers by

Ready to pounce they stand abject

Buds that sprout on leafless stems

That never, ever seem to bloom

And days an everlasting tapestry

Filled with manic morbid doom.

Imagine songs without rhythm

And drummers without a beat

Imagine multitudes of people

Standing silent in the heat.

Ripped apart by bullets and bombs

Imagine bodies in mangled shreds

Fire raging in the heavens

Horizons mad with frantic dread

Chaos spread from Palestine

Igniting the Arab sands

Famine beyond borders of Africa

Spreading through Europe’s land

Imagine children dying

From hunger and disease

Imagine warlord governments

Refuse to negotiate a cease

Imagine plagues and destruction

By swarming locusts, and flies

All the arable land lay wasted

Rivers awash with blood and dye

Imagine anarchy in northern states

Generations of youth living for dope

And mayhem spread from Afghanistan

Where poppies suck all rays of hope

Riots spreading in civilized nations

From Sacramento to Tel Aviv

Colossal polar ice caps melting

Into the bosom of Northern sea’s.

Imagine entire spans of forests

Aflame in southern hills

Dolphins in their masses dying

When tons of oil in oceans spill.

Of all that one can imagine

Imagine waking one fine morn

To find a world where this is real

From mankind’s deeds all borne.
