I am the lover
Who sees you on every boulevard
Strolling in carefree strides;
Your skirt swirling about your silken calves.
Who see’s your luscious lips smiling
At checkout tills and bus stops
And theatre halls and discotheques.

I am the lover who takes refuge
Under the shade of your lashes
I see you in every face
Lingering in ordinary features that suddenly
Transform into extraordinary parts of you.
For me a lifetime with you
Is but a mere moment
Fleeting by like a humming bird.

I am the greedy lover
Whose desire for you is insatiable
Who in his mind visits your bed nightly.
I speak only of you, when
Others speak of so many
I cannot erase the memory
Of your heavenly smile;
The sweet scent of you;
The imagined silent moans of you.

I am the lover who relishes
Your soft sighs upon my pillow
As you languidly stretch your arms,
For those are etched in the fabric of
Of my imagined recollections
And enmeshed in the canvas
Of my reticent soul.

I am the lover who still looks back
On lack lustre days in yester years
Lost in a summers haze;
Of leaf strewn avenues,
Where lovers’ memories are scattered,
Blown here and there like untidy clothes
By the bitter winds of regret.
As I walk on lanes where we once strolled
I resurrect dreams of days when you held me close
On icy cold suburban streets,
To rid me of fears new and old.
I am the lover, whose love for you will not cease
At obstacles thrown,
Or wither by words unspoken
Or waiver by the swords of demons
Lurking in the shadows of a misshapen mind,
For mine is a steadfast love, born outside time,
That will seek thee
Reincarnated through a million rebirths.
