I saw her quite suddenly
On my rush hour train home
Her eyes aglow like ambers
Was lined with dark lashes
The rest of her was covered
Incognito behind a burka and mask
But I could imagine her exotic beauty

Our eyes locked for a moment
And kept returning like magnets
Causing a flutter in my core
My stop came and went
But I remained transfixed
Shivering inside my heart
Mesmerised I was lost in fantasy.
I painted her possible origins

Now in the palaces of Samarkand
A princess bathing in rose petals
Then in a historic hotel of Casablanca
A belly dancer of immense talent
Again in the Grand Bazar of Damascus
Selling tribal carpets and ouds of old
Then once in the souks of Marrakesh
Selling trinkets and fragrant oils.
To my dismay, the last stop came

I smiled at her in anticipation
And imagined lush lips curl
My feet followed trembling
As we both disembarked
Respectfully I kept my distance
So not to alarm her
But in two blinks of my eye

A sea of suits washed over the station
Frantically I searched
for her black cladded form
Yearning for those golden eyes
But she was gone
My heart sank into an abyss
My feet felt like lumps of coal
Wading through hot desert sands
While taking the long way home
